David Kazun

David aims to provide you with a space that feels safe, non-judgemental, and empathetic. He does this by focusing on developing a trusting, honest, and genuine relationship with you, as he believes that the relationship between you and your therapist is fundamental for progress.

David believes that therapy is a place to gain insight into the emotions, thoughts, and behaviours that are currently within your awareness, as well as discovering the underlying emotions and patterns that you may not be conscious of. He also places great importance on the meaning of the experiences that you have had that make you unique, and supporting you in discovering ways to make your life more meaningful and fulfilling.

Approach to Counselling

David specializes in assisting women, men, couples, and teenagers aged 16+, focusing on complex trauma and athletes in high-performance, high-intensity environments.

Employing a trauma-informed method, David collaborates closely with his clients in a profoundly respectful manner. He incorporates various theories including Psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems and Person-Centered theories. For couples he also integrates Imago Relationship Therapy.

David is currently a student member of the BCACC and supervised directly by Kristen Johnston MA RCC-ACS

Education and Experience

David is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology at Adler University. Prior he specialized in youth outreach, crisis intervention, and prevention. In that capacity he provided counselling to youth dealing with substance use and mental health issues. He collaborated with the School District on educational presentations, workshops, and training for staff. Additionally, he conducted presentations for community organizations and liaised with various allied community agencies to stay informed about available services.

As an athlete and coach, he knows first hand the significant impact of physical activity on mental well-being and the role of sports in fostering a sense of community.

Skilled in various techniques to address Depression, Anxiety, and Trauma, David has also received comprehensive training in suicide risk assessment and harm reduction techniques.

His practice is guided by a trauma-informed approach, showcasing expertise in multicultural counselling. David has completed coursework focusing on indigenous cultural considerations and enhancing diversity and inclusion competencies.
