Approach to Counselling

Andy centres his therapeutic orientation around his clients’ intersectional identities, specific contexts and goals. He primarily uses evidence-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). A core component of his therapeutic approach is focused on creating and maintaining a safe and compassionate relationship. He believes in the importance of empowering his clients, firstly by collaborating on a goal-oriented treatment plan and then by identifying areas of change.

Andy has extensive experience in coaching and counselling using a CBT model. His career path has always centred around his dedication to empowering individuals to overcome personal and systemic obstacles that hinder their goals. His goal is to assist people in navigating challenges and acquiring the tools to flourish in their daily lives and relationships.

Being a parent, he understands the overwhelming amount of information available and the challenges of navigating parenthood. Clients can anticipate a secure environment to explore barriers to effective parenting. Our parenting support is rooted in Adlerian psychology, interpersonal neurobiology, and attachment theory. Andy offers tailor-made skills that align with your values, allowing you to have confidence in yourself as a parent.

Andy worked as an educator in various schools and colleges, focusing on EAL programs. He has experience with domestic and international students, immigrants, and refugees in Canada and Japan. Andy holds a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University and in TESL from UBC.
